Petroleum jelly cosmetic is a mineral substance. This jelly-like substance is produced by distilling petroleum at a temperature of 360 degrees Celsius. Petrolatum is a by-product and is a mixture of wax and mineral oils.
The molecular formula of Vaseline consists of carbon and hydrogen in the form of C25H52, which is a heavy hydrocarbon. This substance is white and almost odorless and tasteless. In general, Vaseline is waterproof and its various types are used in industries such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, rubber, etc.
The property of this substance for the skin is that it acts as an insulating layer and provides moisture to the skin.
Petroleum Jelly grades
This product has two types:
Petroleum Jelly industrial and Petroleum Jelly cosmetic.The difference is in the presence of impurities and the number of stages of their purification. For uses related to human health, sanitary Vaseline should be used, which has been filtered through three stages and its impurities are completely separated, but for industrial uses, the yellow or dark type can also be used.
When Vaseline is produced in the refining stages of crude oil, it contains elements as well as bad-smelling and unpleasant fats, and its color will usually be brown or yellow. This oil is not suitable for use in health purposes, especially in the production of medicines and topical creams, because it may contain contamination and pathogens.
Its use is mostly as a lubricant and, in addition, industrial coating. Valves and equipment will rust and erode over time. The best and cheapest way to protect these equipment is to coat them with Vaseline, because in addition to lubricating and creating a relatively good coating, they will never harden and will facilitate periodic inspections.
Also, the right coating for heat transfer equipment such as splits and valves such as polyurethane insulation that cannot be drilled is to use Vaseline along with Rockshield tape.
Because of the various purification steps that are carried out on it, Vaseline is known as a safe fat that is able to retain water for a long time, so it is suitable for hydrating the skin tissue and will be used to treat dry and damaged skin.
Petroleum Jelly is completely white and odorless, and has a greasy and translucent appearance, and is widely used in the production of hand and face creams, soaps, cleansers, lubricants, burn lotions and deodorants.
Vaseline can also be used directly as a moisturizing oil and also a softener at a reasonable price on the skin of different parts of the body to treat dryness on the surface of the skin, cracks in the hands and feet, roughness in the knees and elbows, chapped lips, wrinkles under the eyes, and so on.
